Special Counsel Bob Mueller

To the critics of President Trump, Bob is in many ways the best hope to vacate Donal J. from the oval office.  To the Trumpers, he leads a witch hunt filled with a staff of biased individuals who will do anything to delegitimize Trump’s overwhelming victory.  Of all my posts, this one is probably the hardest to write. Simply because Robert Swan Mueller III is a man who plays his cards close to his vest.  He was director of the FBI prior to James Comey.  He was a man trusted and respected by senators and representatives on both sides of the aisle.  He is a Republican who was the director for twelve years, from 2001 to 2913.  His party affiliation does not keep Trump from believing that is also biased against him.

Anything I might say about what he is doing would be pure conjecture.  The few facts are that George Papadopoulos and Michael Flynn both have pleaded guilty.  Paul Manafort and Richard Gates were both indicted and pleaded not guilty.  At this time the buzz is that President Trump is willing to meet with Mueller and testify under oath.   His lawyers and even past Vice-President Biden advised against it.  Somewhere I read or heard the only way Trump will be able to meet with Mueller is if he can get past his lawyer’s body slamming him into the ground.

I would say that is what an innocent man might do, to clear his name.  The problem is that I don’t believe he is innocent.  Frankly, I don’t even think Trump can tell the truth.  He lives in a world of fantasy and lies chronically.  Catching Trump lying to federal investigators would be like shooting fish in a barrel.  I think it goes back to Trump’s belief that he is smarter than everybody else.  He believes he can weave his lies in such a way, that he will at least appear to be innocent.  The only reason Trump is even considering meeting with Mueller is that he wants this whole thing to go away quickly.

If I had to guess what Mueller will end up charging Trump with in non-legalise wording are the following.  Obstruction of justice is the main one and what got this started.  It looks like there might well have been some money laundering done prior to his bid for the presidency.  I don’t know how much of the financial records Mueller had access to, and there are some legitimate questions about whether had the right to take them.  In all probability, Trump will lie under oath, so perjury seems likely.  That is one of the things that President Clinton got tangled up in with the Monica Lewinsky case.  Beyond that, it is unclear what Mueller may have found.  There there is the whole issue of whether you can charge a sitting president.

Jarred and the Trump boys are a different story.  They don’t have that get out of jail free card.
