Putting It In Context

The news at the moment is flooded with the volleyball handling of the “dreamers”.  Those people who were brought into America illegally as children.  But that is not what I am here to discuss.  I am here to talk about the entire group of people who came into the United States illegally.  Mexico is by far the leading point of entry, and as our President has informed us they are all murderers and rapist. Back to my example.  If you deported every man, woman, and child from Idaho, Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Deleware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, Vermont, Washington D.C. and Wyoming, you would still be a few thousand short of the number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S.  If they were murderers and rapist America would be a war zone.  But they are actually the poorest of the poor.  They do the jobs that none of us would do.  They do it for less than any of us ever would.  Often times for less than minimum wage, because they can’t produce the paperwork to get legitimate jobs.

Don’t get me wrong.  I see the negative aspect of all these people here illegally.  There is the strain on our health care system, our welfare system, the competition for jobs on the low end of the spectrum.  You might consider that people who take advantage of other human beings because they can, might not be the best people to work for.  Sort of like the bully from your school days.  We used to talk about a path to citizenship for most people here. With a president who is such a rabid xenophobe, our legislatures are willing to compromise on everything to at least save the dreamers.  But he will end the chain migration.  In other words, the DACA people’s parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and so on cannot be sponsored by their children to start down the path to naturalization.  If you were faced with your aging parents being deported.  I would do almost anything to protect mine.
